MAC Tracker

its turning into quite some race for the MAC division titles after looking like it was going to be a Toledo and BG cakewalk a couple of weeks ago. Toledo lost to...excuse me?...Central because of QB Gradkowski's dumb play after dumb play. (hell boys...Eastern beat Central!!) And BG without QB Jacobs is godawful and lost to...what the hell?...Akron. (what the hell's a Zip?) So now we have a three way tie for first in the MAC East (BG, Ohio, Miami) and a two way tie in the MAC West (Toledo and CMU..though the Cow Chips have the tie-breaker) Best news of the weekend though, Eastern didn't lose....they had a bye.

MAC Tracker

Wacky weekend of MAC football. Toledo was losing to winless, eternally pathetic Buffalo before they woke up and realized who they were playing. The equally pathetic Toledo Blade made a pun that without running back Trinity Dawson, UT would have been up a creek. That's right..a Dawson's Creek pun. (goddamn Katie Holmes). BG got crushed by a bad Western Michigan and lost their star QB. And Eastern found a new way to lose, rallying with under a minute at home vs. Miami to score a TD and then botch the extra point to lose by one. Eastern...just cut the football team already.

rocking out to Lifehouse

I know JK wanted me to score as the whiny, pussy emo kid that is her exact opposite but no such luck...not sure about this one though. I'd rather have been the haughty intellectual though since that's what I aspire to...(though fyi: I am listening to emo right now)

Robot
You are 85% Rational, 14% Extroverted, 14% Brutal, and 28% Arrogant.
You are the Robot! You are characterized by your rationality. In fact, this is really ALL you are characterized by. Like a cold, heartless machine, you are so logical and unemotional that you scarcely seem human. For instance, you are very humble and don't bother thinking of your own interests, you are very gentle and lack emotion, and you are also very introverted and introspective. You may have noticed that these traits are just as applicable to your laptop as they are to a human being. In short, your personality defect is that you don't really HAVE a personality. You are one of those annoying, super-logical people that never gets upset or flustered. Unless, of course, you short circuit.

To put it less negatively:

1. You are more RATIONAL than intuitive.

2. You are more INTROVERTED than extroverted.

3. You are more GENTLE than brutal.

4. You are more HUMBLE than arrogant.

Compatibility:

Your exact opposite is the Class Clown.

Other personalities you would probably get along with are the Hand-Raiser, the Emo Kid, and the Haughty Intellectual.

*

*

If you scored near fifty percent for a certain trait (42%-58%), you could very well go either way. For example, someone with 42% Extroversion is slightly leaning towards being an introvert, but is close enough to being an extrovert to be classified that way as well. Below is a list of the other personality types so that you can determine which other possible categories you may fill if you scored near fifty percent for certain traits.

The other personality types:

The Emo Kid: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Starving Artist: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Bitch-Slap: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Brute: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hippie: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Televangelist: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Schoolyard Bully: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Class Clown: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Robot: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Haughty Intellectual: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Spiteful Loner: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Sociopath: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hand-Raiser: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Braggart: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Capitalist Pig: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Smartass: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

a Kent Carol

Jen and I went to Kent State on monday to see a flute recital by her old flute prof. We had a pretty good time actually, got to eat at the place with my favorite guacamole. I saw a bum named Bingo Bob or something who regularly comes to musical performances at Kent and draws people in the audience with markers. And the guy in front of me looked just like the commissioner of baseball from the back. Jen drove me all around campus and downtown Kent, which is a real college town unlike Ypsilanti, MI. I've been there before, but the campus is much nicer than I remember. Got to see all of the 150 places where she lived in 5 years of college and where all the crazy stories happened.

Anyway the point of this post is that I seem to have developed a conscience since Monday night..in part anyway. On the way out of town we stopped at the May 4 shooting site and memorial. Now I've been there before when Brandon was looking at KSU but this was a dark, cool, windy night. It was truly haunting...seeing those eerie lit markers over the 4 spots in the parking lot where the students fell. Especially the one over the exact spot where the famous picture was took..the one I was laughing at three weeks ago. You can see the markers in the picture here. Like Ebenezer Scrooge in a Christmas Carol I've seen what a cad I've been. Now undoubtedly I'll be made fun of for this, or I'll be accused of just trying to suck up to my gf who went to Kent. And I don't really care if people think I'm an ass. I have an odd sense of humor, everyone knows that. But I can't joke about the shootings anymore after being in that place, looking at those lights marking where those people died. Seeing where the national guard was standing and firing into a crowd of students. I spent much of last night researching May 4 itself since I didn't know too much. I know I sound like a pussy but I was moved and I cannot make jokes about something like that. Oh I'm not going to change my whole personality or anything. Just no more dead hippie jokes.

MAC Tracker

well the real MAC powers are finally starting to separate themselves from the MAC pretenders...unfortunately my alma mater is one of those. Two weeks ago I had crazy notions of an 8-3 Eastern team getting a MAC bowl bid. I even had a brief, though insane idea of a MAC championship....in something other than running sports. Silly me...back to that all too familiar 4-7 season in Ypsilanti, MI. (no pictures today cause I just don't care.)

not as interesting as Jefferson's sex life

In case anyone at all is interested (and why in hell would anyone) here is a very brief abstract of my thesis...please feel free to offer any suggestions you might have (other than just finish)

“My Venerable and Dear Friend”: The Correspondence of John Adams, Esq. and Dr. Benjamin Rush on the Washington Image

My thesis research focuses on the image of George Washington as it has been seen through history and through the eyes of Washington’s contemporaries. I will first examine the image itself; briefly touch on what it has meant throughout the history of the United States and the ways in which Washington himself influenced it. I will then demonstrate the contemporary reactions to the image itself by focusing on two important founders, John Adams and Dr. Benjamin Rush.
Through the writings of Adams and Rush, primarily to each other but also to other contemporaries, I will investigate what the founders thought about Washington and their reactions to his near deification by both history and the American republic they helped to create. While not being able to always be open and direct because of Washington’s influence and immense popularity, Adams and Rush were as honest as they could be about the image of the Founding Father. Much of their writings were the jealous and despairing letters of proud men who were concerned with their own places in history and the immense shadow Washington cast over them. Some of their complaints about the undue influence of Washington’s image, however, have more to do with concern over the contradictions of a republican nation deifying one man and his legacy.
The first section of the thesis project will focus on the secondary literature on the Washington image and its influence in the nation’s history. This is a question of some historic importance as much recent historical scholarship has dealt with the Washington image. I argue that it is necessary to examine the Washington image itself before focusing on the reactions of Adams and Rush to it. This, however, must be as brief and concise as possible as it is not the main focus of my research.
The main focus of my thesis research is to look at the reactions of Rush and Adams to this immense influence of the Washington image. The rest of the project will focus mainly on the primary literature of these two important contemporaries of Washington. Their letters primarily to each other will serve as the backbone of my research. I will compliment their letters to each other with other letters that they wrote to get at their thoughts and motivations as best as history can understand them. Of course there will be secondary literature to aid in the understanding of their motivations and to assist in the answering of historical problems.

Another year, another Eastern loss to Toledo, this time a 30-3 setback at the Glass Bowl saturday night. The Eagles split the 4 games with the Rockets while I was there but now can't seem to even come close....though this one was closer that the final score showed. If EMU's starting QB hadn't missed half the game or if they would actually have scored on some of the drives they had deep into UT territory. And for some reason I was rooting for my alma mater instead of my current school that actually has a team that can win the MAC. Oh well...Go Rockets I guess. Again I can't find a picture from the game so here is a photo of the UT Marching Band which has always thought itself better than it actually is.

2005 MAC Football Standings

WEST MAC Overall
Eastern Michigan 2-0 3-2
Toledo 1-0 3-1
Central Michigan 2-1 2-3
Western Michigan 1-1 3-2
Northern Illinois 1-1 2-3
Ball State 0-1 0-4

EAST MAC Overall
Bowling Green 1-0 2-2
Ohio 1-0 2-2
Akron 1-1 2-2
Miami 1-2 2-3
Buffalo 0-1 0-4
Kent State 0-3 1-4

just wanted to put these standings down showing Eastern in first place in the MAC West....actually in the first place in the entire conference...for the next 10 hrs or so. Eastern is in Toledo playing the Rockets at the Glass Bowl for first place in the MAC West. So this won't last too long....but wanted to put it down since it's never happened in the 8+ years I've been following EMU football.

Stoic Brits and Dead Hippies

thought I'd do a quick recap of my pretty damn entertaining weekend in between feeling like praying to the porcelain gods and pouring over 400 pages of historical theory....(turns out it's very much the same feeling)

Friday Sept. 30
-opened at the bookstore then came straight home to get picked up by Jen to go to the Oasis concert at Blossom Music Center outside Cleveland
-Blossom was a very cool venue...basically an new looking amphitheater in the middle of beautiful forests and hills...I was very impressed
-had great seats right in the front of the middle...fairly odd though wasn't sure what to do with seats at a concert
the first act was umm...some punk band called Caspian Sea or something (the name of the band was a running joke with the girl and I)...didn't bother to even move toward our seats for them
next up was Jet...yeah Jet, decided to sit for that one...also used Jet's set to go to the pisser and look for earplugs for Jen (turns out musicians actually care about their hearing...while my ears just bled)
-had a drunk biker guy next to us who danced like crazy and boy did he love Jet (someone must) he also threatened to kick several people's asses (not us)
-Oasis was a pretty damn good show..played alot of their older stuff from when people still cared, even played most of the few songs I know
Liam Gallagher is friggin entertaining....his voice is completely shot (from the coke JK suspects) but he just stood there like a statue while his brother and bandmates "rocked out"
at the end of the show, dozens of people started jumping onto the stage to hug Liam (not his poor brother with the actual talent though)...security quickly removed the drunken guys and less quickly the drunken coeds

Saturday Oct 1
-saturday morning Chief, me and the Jenny's we date went up to Ypsi for the big MAC rivalry between the Eastern Michigan Eagles and the Kent State Golden Flashes
-made inappropriate Kent State shooting jokes all day, though no one could top Rusty's picture
-had one of the greatest tailgatings ever with the incredible bar in KM's box and everything else Joe and Chach had set up...you guys never cease to amaze me, you are definitely in charge of turning my funeral into the greatest kegger ever
-watched a relatively good though boring MAC game where Eastern held off the Dead Hippies 27-20. but after talking up the MAC and Eastern (not sure why) to Chief's big school girl, the game was played in front of 6,000 people....on HOMECOMING!!! pathetic...maybe you're right about the MAC, Jenny..
-I kept getting into trouble at the game and JK would send me into time outs...but for the life of me I can't remember what I said...anyone wanna fill in the missing beer gap....must have been bad though to top all the dead hippie jokes
-tailgated a little more, then went to Sticks (of course) and then lamely home by 10:30 but it was a GREAT weekend

MAC Tracker

Great weekend for my alma mater, bad weekend for my current school. Eastern beat the Dead Hippies...umm Golden Flashes of Kent State at homecoming (more on that later). Toledo went to Fresno and got killed without their star QB. The only bad thing about the EMU-KSU game....the announced attendance of 6,294...in a 30,000 seat stadium!!! I mean I know its Eastern and I've seen countless games at a half-empty to completely empty Rynearson Stadium but come on!! It was Homecoming!! and Eastern is in sole possession of first place in the MAC West (until next week) I couldn't find a damn picture from the game (it shouldn't be THAT difficult) so here is a bad picture of the Eastern cheerleaders and dance team.
