goodbye old friend

R.I.P. 1862-2006

during the Tharpe family fun trip to Frankenmuth I discovered, to my absolute horror and unbelievable sorrow, that the Frankenmuth Brewing Company has closed for business. this place was BY FAR the best brewery/restaurant that I've ever been to. I would go so far as so say it was one of my top 5 favorite places to eat anywhere. my parents and JK took me up there for my b-day last year...a 2 hr drive just to drink beer and eat awesome sandwiches and pretzel bread...and TOTALLY worth it. and now it appears to be closed...probably permanently. I even went up to the window to peer into the place...and it had been pretty cleaned out (the beer labels on the taps were even gone!)

the worse part of all of this is that, besides losing an awesome place to eat that I loved, I will now be unable to get my favorite beer that was made exclusively there, Geyer's American Cream Ale. when we would go up to Frankenmuth, whether we ate there or not, I would stop there and buy a case to take home. I stumbled on this beer, and the brewery, with the family and immediately was floored (and quickly buzzing) by how much it tasted like Steam Whistle beer from Toronto that we fell in love with. But the more I drank and took home the more I realized that I liked it better, and that it was really my favorite beer altogether. And now, barring some sort of divine beer gods' intervention, it is gone forever....

I think I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now...
