baby Tharpes pics

here's a couple of pics of Hunter and Alice Tharpe...in case you are interested. as for me, I know this will sound horrible, but I've always thought babies are ugly. they're kinda weird looking...not just my niece/nephew but every baby I've ever seen kinda creeps me out.
that awful statement being said, the pic of them cuddled up in their little hats is pretty damn cute...

light up a celebratory cigar!!!

no, I am not referring to a new biography on Bill Clinton...

my new niece and nephew were born this morning in Boise, ID to my older brother Justin and his wife Jane!!!

my new niece is named Alice Ames Tharpe. she was born at 10:23am Boise local time (12:23 EST). she is 4 lbs, 15 oz....the middle name Ames is my mother's maiden name.

my new nephew is Hunter Marshall Tharpe. he was born right after his older sister at 10:25am Boise time. he is 5lbs, 6 oz...which is bigger than I was as a premie in 1978. his middle name Marshall is of course my dad's first name and Justin's middle name (and the name of our family hero, General of the Army George C. Marshall.)

mom and children are doing just fine. this calls for a celebratory cigar!!! let me know and I will smoke one with any one of you (my treat!) in honor of the newest Tharpes!!!

random musings VII

-lately I've been thinking about the past far too much and being way too nostalgic about a couple of situations that I can't go back to anyway, so what's the point in dwelling on them...even though I can't make myself stop.

-just finished watching a godawful, boring NFL game between the Ravens and Broncos that was basically 6-3 until Denver scored a last minute TD. god I hate defensive football games!!! there is little more boring than offenses doing nothing and punting all game long. I know, I know...I should appreciate that defensive efforts but I don't. its the same reasons I can't really get behind soccer and hockey even though I'd like to. I LOVE games that are like 38-34 in 2 OTs...good thing I follow the MAC and not the Big 10.
though strangely I am the same guy who loves nothing more than a 1-0 pitchers duel in baseball with no homeruns (the run should be a single, a stolen base, and another basehit).....I know, pretty odd

-I wonder what's actually going to happen first: I find a real job like everyone else and support myself OR I hit retirement age and live off young tax payers.

-I kind of want the warm weather to just stop. I said earlier tonight that I want snow but thats not true (as I kind of hate snow) but I do want it cooler. long sleeves and coats. everyone looks better in long sleeves and coats...well men anyway. speaking of which I need to replace my worn and not-very-warm leather coat...I'm thinking wool coat (or maybe a peacoat?), either black or gray...any suggestions/advice/good places to buy coats?

can I pull this look off...except, you know, white?

-I've been out of my current favorite (and Steam Whistle taste-a-like) beer, Geyer's American Cream Ale, for many months now. I'm starting to get the shakes...is anyone going to be near Frankenmuth, MI in the next couple weeks who could pick up a case...or six..for me?

-there are two NFL jerseys that I kinda want for X-mas...and not surprisingly, neither of them are from my actual NFL team, the 49ers. I want a (former UT QB) Bruce Gradkowski Tampa Bay jersey...getting in early on the next great MAC QB in the NFL..and a powder blue San Diego LT jersey (b/c he is fantasy football stud)....kinda sad

UT's Bruce Gradkowski...wearing my Xmas present

-I've only seen 2 episodes but I am really liking Aaron Sorkin's new show on NBC, Studio 60. its a bit of both SportsNight and West Wing.....good characters, great writing, funny, and Matt Perry and Brad Whitford are really good in it. I think Sorkin must be on the blow again...and thats a GREAT thing!

-another thanks to J for allowing me to go to Game 3 of the ALCS at Comerica Park between the Tigers and the Evil Empire (Yankees). unbelievable game by Rogers and the Tigers...and I've never been (or maybe ever will be) in a more electric place than downtown Detroit that night. unreal....the damn upperdeck was SHAKING from the 43,000 people jumping and screaming. absolutely incredible...

-lately I've felt really silly and even stupid for knowing the things that I want out of my life (or do I?) which isn't right obviously. no one (myself included) should make me feel dumb for wanting things to complete my life (even if I'm not sure I even want them anymore)...yeah, forget this one, I have no friggin idea what I'm even talking about

-when (if) I get a real job it damned well better be a M-F gig so I don't have to say...work an open saturday and a close sunday and miss both a fun trip to Cincinnati and a chance to go to Game 4 of the ALCS....just giving examples here...I love the friggin bookstore!

-can anyone teach me to play the piano...and play it well...without actually charging me anything? yeah, didn't think so

-I'm not sure I can read anymore...I have no attention span and can't read anything for very long at all. though I am trying to read 2 dense history books right now. perhaps I should just read something mindless...and not true. any suggestions?
